Default active vs adaptive optics

Hi,

Can someone explain me the difference between active and adaptive optics?

Usually, "active" refers to simple first order tip/tilt correction, and
"adaptive" refers to higher order corrections that actually involve modification
of the shape of the wavefront. But these terms aren't formally defined, so you
will see some variation in usage.
