The "causation" of obesity is simply that an -individual- is storing a large excess of calories, for whatever reason(s). There are fat, average and thin people in all "races" and most cultures.

The culture of the UK roughly is roughly similar to that of the most prevalent demographic of the US. However, the US is more diverse, has more cultures, so results are likely to be different.
