On many sites, I've found graphical and/or tabular representations of
the result of the equation of time, but not the algebraic equation
itself. Can someone please recommend a readily available reference
that states the equation of time explicitly, defining all the terms?
Here's one page (from a very cool site -- even if you're sick of
"graphical representations" you might enjoy these: truncate the link
to the domain name to get the menu frame) that gives some approximate
formulas, with a downloadable spreadsheet:
http://www.analemma.com/Pages/Summation/SummationMath/SummationMath.html.
A single expression for an exact calculation, which usually involves
determining the Sun's hour-angle at mean solar noon on each date of
interest, would be very unwieldy; it's much more convenient to work
through it in stages.
