Uncarollo mentioned taking astronomical vacations in Chile, and on the
whole that's something I'd very much like to do: the VLT site is
clearly spectacular, ALMA possibly even more so in its Martian
desolation, the southern sky a glory and a wonder, and Chile filled
with glorious mountains to admire in the daytime, and tasty food to
eat and wine to drink on cloudy nights.
I don't drive much, so really don't want to fly to Antofagasta, hire a
car and drive to ALMA myself - it looks territory in which it would be
fatal if the car broke down. Besides, it would be more fun to go in a
group of astronomical types.
Does anyone know of a good provider of such vacations? There's
www.quasarchile.cl who have a pretty much perfect itinerary, but who
really seem designed to cater to pre-formed largish groups.
