During "idle" descent after the big "ring of fire", there was lots of
small "fires" from some engines. Is that from residual fuel that burns,
or actual control bursts that look bad due to flow of air against the
engines ?


The white puffs are from the nitrogen cold gas thrusters (i.e. the
attitude control system). If it's orange flame, that's almost certainly
residual kerosene burning off.
