Default Moon in Halo in Winter Hexagon

Sometimes telescopes and binoculars are unnecessary or even interfere with an otherwise beautiful view.

Such was the case last night. In an otherwise clear sky, a bright lunar halo surrounded the waxing gibbous moon. As is generally the case, the inner edge of the halo was more sharply defined than the outer edge. Five of the six stars of the Winter Hexagon - Rigel, Sirius, Procyon, Pollux, and Capella surrounded the halo. The sixth star of the Hexagon, Aldebaran, was just inside the halo's western edge. The halo itself passed directly across Orion's sword. The sky, both inside and outside the halo, appeared to be crystal clear. It was a beautiful sight!

Sketcher,
To sketch is to see.

P.S. Wake up s.a.a. and look at the sky! Post observations. Post links to your photos. Tell us what you're doing in the world of astronomy. Post equipment reviews, book reviews, magazine reviews, links to your favorite websites, etc. Some people will disagree with others. That's normal. Express your views (even when you disagree) and move on. Someone once said: "Only a fool argues with a fool." and yes, sometimes I've been the fool. But it's never too late to turn around and create an on-topic posting or reply.. Don't get discouraged if no one replies. All postings with on-topic titles (and quite obviously, even those with off-topic titles) end up being read by many people.
