Default Positions of Mercury and Regulus

On the eclipse Mercury and Regulus were to the left of the Sun however, due to Mercury's own motion, that planet is now a dawn appearance to the right of the Sun -

Due to the orbital motion of the Earth, the star Regulus which was seen close to the left of the Sun on the eclipse has changed to the right of the Sun hence Venus ,Mercury and Regulus are dawn appearances.

It only takes a slight adjustment to leave the Sun central and work with perspectives of the changing nature of stars and planets to a moving Earth and far more productive that RA/Dec observing which does not make that distinction.
