Obviously, the latter. And while 10,000 years is a very long time _in some
contexts_... I'd hate to have to wait that long for a burger at McDonald's...
it's miniscule compared to, oh, say, 65 million years.
Anything that's been extinct only since the emergence of anatomically-modern
humans does belong in a different category from other extinct creatures.
