The very least they can do is partition the perspectives between the faster and slower moving planets where the actual loop of the faster Mercury seen from a slower moving Earth contrasts sharply with the illusory loops of the slower moving Mars seen from a faster moving Earth -

After 500 years since Copernicus first overcame the hurdle for direct/retrogrades of the slower moving planets and an indirect extrapolation of a Sun centered system this way, the tie is right to account for the direct/retrogrades of the actual loop of Mercury before it arrives in the inner solar system and the planet closest to the Sun.
