Default ACS Update

Update on Suspension of ACS Operations

As of 12:00 PM, Tuesday June 27, Hubble Space Telescope's
Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) remains inactive due to a
problem that caused the camera to suspend operations on June 19.

At this point, the ACS is in a safe configuration, and analysis
of engineering data at the time of the suspension is ongoing.
Initial indications are that there is a problem with one set of
electronics used to provide power to the CCDs. A review board
is meeting June 29 to determine the best course of action.
The team is hopeful that observations could resume in early July.

In the meantime, Hubble is collecting science data with its other
science instruments - the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2),
the Near Infrared and Multi Object Spectrometer (NICMOS), and the
Fine Guidance Sensors (FGS).
