Expedition 10 Prepares for ADUM Experiment Sessions, Progress 15 Undocking

After enjoying a quiet weekend aboard the International Space Station,
Expedition 10 Commander Leroy Chiao and Flight Engineer Salizhan Sharipov
returned to a full schedule Monday. Chiao set up the Advanced Diagnostic
Ultrasound in Microgravity (ADUM) experiment and trained for sessions
scheduled for later this week. ADUM seeks to better understand the crew's
ability to gather and transmit ultrasound data to the ground. The
application may also find benefits on Earth, allowing for much quicker
injury diagnosis for patients at remote locations by doctors based at
hospitals.

Chiao also continued to gather unneeded items for disposal on the ISS
Progress 15 spacecraft. Russian flight controllers are slated to command
Progress 15 to undock from the aft end of the Station's Zvezda Service
Module on Dec. 22 at 1:32 p.m. CST (1932 GMT). After undocking, controllers
will command Progress 15 to de-orbit and burn up in Earth's atmosphere.

The departure of the Russian spacecraft sets the stage for the arrival of
the ISS Progress 16 cargo ship. The uncrewed cargo ship will deliver water,
fuel and supplies, including food. Progress 16 is scheduled to lift off from
Kazakhstan on Dec. 23 at 4:19 p.m. CST (2219 GMT) and dock with the Station
at 6:05 p.m. CST on Dec. 25 (0005 GMT Dec. 26).

In other activities Monday, Sharipov conducted inspections on Station
systems and performed maintenance on life support systems.
