Yes, this is a newsgroup on astronomy and not on politics.
This is also what's known as an "unmoderated" newsgroup.
So there really is nothing to stop people from posting about
any subject they want to be flamed about.

Your newsreader probably has a killfile which may help you
a bit. Personally, i just use my mouse. A little flick of the
finger and the garbage floats off into oblivion, so i can go on
to the subjects i like best... those about astronomy.

Again welcome, and i hope your experience here is extremely
rewarding.
