Yesterday I was reading about the Rocket Propulsion Establishment's
ideas for a lox/ammonia motor back in th early 50s. Does anyone know
if a lox/ammonia motor other than the XLR 99 was actually made
anywhere?


Not for spaceflight, it seems. Hydrazine is the next step up from
ammonia (NH3, N2H4) and is a stable room temperature liquid with
very good performance.
