Actually you can visualise a sperical surface as being curved, or you
can visualize it as being wrapped around a third dimension. The
predictions of GR (at least for weak fields) are thus completely
reproducable in 5 dimensional space. I have no argument with this. The
question I have relates to black holes

When you have a black hole you have a different topology. I think the
reference I have given might be useful in that regard.
