What about electric trains?

I have a telescope with a camera attached, so I might have problems
getting the images onto my laptop. Does this make it on topic in
uk.sci.astronomy?

Actually I wouldn't mind if all the power went off one night, I might
actually get a dark sky!

Back in the mid-1970s, when we had the three-day week and rolling power
cuts, I was observing with some students on the Isaac Newton Telescope (it
was still in Sussex back then). The official plan was that, to conserve
power, they would only work up to midnight. So if it was cloudy before
midnight (when they were on watch, but could not open the dome) and they
shut down after midnight (even if it cleared) the management was able to
confirm back up the channels that RGO had done its bit for the national
economy.

This was not much help to the astronomers, as many of our objects were on
the 3am side of the night.
