Default The Horsehead and Flame Nebulae in Orion

Before I had the facility to image over the Internet I used to do my
astronomy in the light polluted skies of England. It was only once I
had a 12" reflector that I managed to see the famous dark nebula
usually called the Horsehead Nebula.

A query - the lighter cloud like effect across the picture, is that
millions of stars in the very far distance beyond the Nebula?

If not, what?
Ta
Alan.
