I'm in college in the pan-handle of West Virginia. I am a Computer
Science/Physics Recently a number of lights have started to bee seen
in the lower sky on clear nights. They seem to be twinkling. Also,
they are unmoving. They are pretty low in the sky and teh number seems
to be increasing. We just saw another onr tonight. there are 2 or 3 of
them that i have not seen before, or at least noticed. I was wondering
if anyone else has noticed these and/or knows what they could be.
Are you looking at them with a telescope or with your naked eye?
When you say they are "unmoving" do you mean with respect to the
starfield or the earth. In other words when you observe them at
high power through a telescope do they rotate out of the field
of view with time (as do stars) or do they remain fixed in view?
If viewed with a telescope under high power and the "lights" appear
to resolve into several light sources that may or may not appear
to be moving (especially if a red and green appear on the outside
with white in between) they are probably ordinary aircraft with
landing lights on.
If under high magnification they look like stars but do not rotate with
the stars, and especially if military jets show up and photograph them,
then they are simply UFOs and you can ignore them. Discussing such
observations here will only lead to immediate ridicule.
Hope this helps.
