in late July I'm taking a walking holiday, based in Albiano, Tuscany.
Having never been to this area before I was hoping that someone in this
group could tell me whether
it is possible to use a Telescope and/or take astrophotographs, at that
time of year.

I am told that the Albiano area is free from light pollution so it would
be a shame to miss out on some good skies
even though it might be not very dark in late July.

Southern European skies in July will be much darker than we're used to in UK
as twilight is shorter at low latitudes.

Can't comment about quality of the skies at that time of year though.
