Rick - Thanks for the heads up on this. A couple of friends have seen
what your talking about so when I bought this one the ad for it said it
had already hazed and the objective was a brand new style objective. It
seems that the old turquiose front style pst are the ones that develop
haze. The new ones have a blue more transparent front to them. Clear

My older PST is starting to go also. Meade should just, mail out the new
lenses. I'd bet that 40mm doublets can't cost much. Actually, "red lens
disease" doesn't seem to impact the image much. At least they are fixing
them for free. Anyway, a PST is a great little toy for quick solar
observing. I often take mine to work for lunch or mid-afternoon break and
the public loves the views. It only takes seconds to set up. Also the view
thru the double rig with the Glatter holder is really a knock-out! The bino
viewer attachment is cool, but does not compare to looking thru two PSTs.
The only down side (other than triple the price) is that it takes some
fiddling to get it set up so the double unit does not work well for public
viewing.
