Default Star pocket - any good?

So nobody has any idea if the star pocket is good enough to get a beginner
up and running without too much frustration i.e. so that they give up soon
after?
I conceed that there might be cheaper and more traditional methods.
I also conceed that the star pocket might have a short life once the user
graduates - but will it get them started?

I bought a very similar gadget called a Stellarscope from a local
charity shop. Here's a link http://www.livesciencestore.com/56857.html
The Star Pocket is sold as a Stellarscope in some shops.
"Not suitable for children"? I would have thought it's ideal for
children, but a quick look at Google Groups found lukewarm reviews
including one noting that it isn't very useful at night :-)
