Are they serious? Any modern computer could open the full res images
with no problem at all. My 9-year old PII 266 opened the 109 MB tif
with
Irfanview and also the 60 MB jpg in IE 6 and didn't even break a sweat.


I thought the warning was specifically not to open those images with a
web browser ?

No, it just warns that _some browsers_ may give a broken image, and that
really for simple 'viewing', it isn't really worth using these images.
Acceptable image sizes on many systems, have grown massively in recent
years.
