A big round of applause to John Carmack, Pixel, Texel, and all
the rest of the Armadillo Aerospace team, folks. They shot for
the (simulated) Moon, and if they missed this time, well, it
wouldn't be worth a prize if it were a sure thing.
Good try, bad luck, and there's always next year.
And flying hardware beats paper designs.
Yes it does! I was there (manning a booth) so I only got to see a
little of the flight ops. If I squatted I could about 1/4 of the
Jumbotron. I made a point to run outside and watch the Armadillo
flights. They made an incredible showing, and I think the number of
flights they did make provided way more excitement than if Pixel had
just lifted, hovered and landed successfully. Great flying, hope to see
all you sci.spacers there next year!
