Thanks Graham, yes I think "Pyroclastic" is correct (according to a
lunar geologist I know.)
These things always remind me of pingos. Note the centres of them and
the fact that they don't seem to splatter into each other.
Always presupposing that craters were formed by meteor hits; the
surface of the moon aught to allow the production of non circular ones
would they not?
Or is that why the geology expert maintains they are pyroclastic?
If pyroclastic for that reason, why not pingoic or whatever the term
might be?
