David Levy and S & T error!
If you're not a grammarian, or interested in common language errors,
read no further.
But if you are, David Levy made a classic error in his July 2006
column---and should know better as he holds both bachelor's and master's
degrees in English!
"...eventually the time came for my wife, Wendee, and I to make the
switch from film to CCD imaging" (Sky & Telescope, July 2006, p. 106).
Hmm... to figure out the right way to write it and say it, just drop
the wife part. "the time came for ___ to make the switch".
Surprised that no S & T editor caught it... or don't they edit David's
columns?
In any event, it was a wonderful column about his experiences with
souping up a Schmidt scope and how he has, finally, achieved his goal of
comet-hunting with a CCD-equipped Schmidt telescope.
Oh, what incredible goodies he's received-- in donated equipment, labor,
and intellectual talent. The rich do get richer!
(I apologize, in advance, if I've made any grammar errors in this post!
But then again, this is a newsgroup; I'm not a columnist; I'm not paid
to write this; and I have no editor who is paid to edit my posts! :-) )
