You could have a look at Cartes du Ciel, it works on Ubuntu Linux as does
Sky Map Pro with a bit of a fiddle.

Chances are you'll be able to compile it for your Mac (I guess) using
the nasty X11 that you don't like ;-)

You'll hurt its feelings ;-)

I dont mind X11, I use Fink to get some handy tools. I'm looking at
Equinox 6.00 now and I think I'll have a nosey at Cartes du Ciel....
