Because there're many reasons to believe it to be true?

There always are.

The technique of the big lie requires it.

It may or may not be true this time, but after the series of lies coming
from Washington on this subject, I'd have trouble believing them if they
said the sun set in the west. So I'll believe this only after it's been
confirmed by independant means ( which means non US or coalition ones, and
that includes press based in those contries or controlled by interests based
there ).

That's what you get for been caught in one ( or several ) lies.
