Default Perseids from Tenerife in 2007

Hi

I go to Tenerife ~ twice a year for a mix of hols and observing.

You could stay at the Parador de las Canadas where there are some observing
facilities

or get a package deal and drive up the mountain at night.

Good luck!

Hi

I would like to find a spectacular place to view the Perseids from in
2007.

I live in Leeds, UK but the light pollution and variable weather make it
difficult to be certain of a good sighting.

I once saw pictures of the extinct volcano on Tenerife and it has a few
observatories up there so I got to thinking it must be a good sky viewing
location else they wouldn't have built them there.

With this in mind I am thinking of taking a holiday on Tenerife in August
next year and viewing the Perseids from said volcano.

I am not an astronomer, I would just like to see a good meteor shower in
full intensity from a good location with a near certain chance that the
weather won't mess things up.

Q1 - does Tenerife sound like a good idea? Will it be dark enough and will
the sky be clear on a typical August night?

Q2 - can you think of a better location, finances permitting? I am not
rich!!

Q3 - are there any downsides to Tenerife that I may have overlooked?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Regards
James
