Default spectrum - carbon star R Lep...

My first lo-res spectrum [50A/pixel] of R Lep, with its unique carbon star profile, largely confirms the extreme colour image posted here earlier.

Radiation peaks in deep red at ~690nm [6900A] but extends into the invisible near-infrared that CCD's record so well - no IR block filters in my toolbox! Rigel [=beta Ori] spectrum obtained during the same session used for comparison with hydrogen Balmer lines and atmospheric lines A, a, B referenced.

Interestingly my other spectra of M-type vars go much further into near-IR but don't apparently have as high a colour index. Do I assume CI refers to visual rather than via other detectors which seems odd?
