From Painius:
And i really have a hard time with
presently held beliefs in quantum theory
that information cannot be transfered
using nonlocality. It has the potential to
really open up the whole Universe for
us--to UNblind us--IF we can find a way
to use it to transfer voice and data.
I think you're in a bit of a 'box' in your concept of 'information
transfer'. You're still thinkin' in terms of transmitting discrete data
streams.. morse code, voice, binary code etc. This also seems true of
Mr.Greysky's 'FTL' ideas. But true nonlocal information transfer would
be holographic in nature.. sent as whole concepts and received as whole
concepts, without need for any 'data streaming'. Whole concepts and the
'big picture' is what Wolter was all about.
You may be right about the "box". But i can't help thinking
how a spin change here on Earth from + to - resulting in a spin
change on, say, Mars from - to + seems so naturally attractive
for the exchange of data in binary format.
This isn't how it works.
One might even
envision a parallel arrangement which would allow the xfer of
giga- or even yotabytes (1024 x 10^21 kilobytes) of data
instantaneously. This could be designed into a fairly holistic
(or holistic-seeming) transfer, eh?
...or am i still missing something?
Your still missing something.
Instantaneous communications would be
just a few steps away from functionally
instantaneous transportation.
Well, here you're getting into the principle of hyperdrive, which is
first cousins with nonlocality.. both of which would be hard to conceive
of if space is a 'void'.
oc
For me they're not very easy to perceive under *any*
circumstances. I'm still with Einstein... spooky!
Now, the concepts themselves aren't really spooky.
It's when i begin thinking about their potential realities
and practicalities that a shiver or two goes up me
spine.
happy days and...
starry starry nights!

Lay in hay and squint your eye,
Lose your youth in moaning sigh,
Find the truth in every lie!
