Boeing "strike breaking" nonunion workers will process the Pluto New
Horizons Star 48
upper stage, according to:
"http://www.flatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051105/NEWS02/511050329/1007"
Heads up Florida!
Sounds like 1500 people just gave up their jobs.
"Strikes" against this strike;
It's an economic strike, so Boeing can legally hire replacement
workers and fire the strikers.
The strike effects mostly govt and military products, not commercial.
Which are far more patient in letting schedules slip and remaining
as customers then the private sector.
Machinists can be replaced much easier than engineers, and have
a harder time finding new jobs.
The strike is occurring during record profits, when Boeing is best
able to weather the financial hit.
The strike is effecting a relatively small part of the company, which
is a low profit area to begin with.
The strike appears mostly over health benefits, which everyone is
dealing with, and not likely to inspire much public sympathy.
'Strikes' for this strike;
Unemployment in Florida is at a record low, so they should
be able to find jobs elsewhere.
Recommendation;
Accept the mediators suggestions and declare a moral victory.
