At least a partial answer to that is
not to rely exclusively on *US* media.
Our local PBS station shows BBC World. Lama Hasan is a hottie, but in spite
of that I get the impression that she's a better *journalist* than the US
talking heads could be. Removing the direct need to generate revenue helps.
Even a tabloid like The Guardian has better journalistic scruples than CBS
News.
As to Time- well, perhaps it's time has passed. I happen to subscribe to US
News and World Report, and it has gradually been assimilated by the Newsweek
look.
I've spoken to 4 returnees who didn't know each other, and they all told
similar stories. I believe I need to talk to another 5000 in order to have a
statistically significant sample.
One fellow I talked to returned over a year ago and moved into recruiting.
He wasn't particularly enthusiastic to return, but the more recent returnees
report that the situation is a lot more stable now than then.
I suggested we make an official policy to begin pulling out 60 days after
the *last* insurgent incident, and halt any pullout for 60 days after any
such incident. The sooner the bad guys begin behaving, the sooner we can
leave. If they really want us to leave, then they need to contain their
behavior.
Where did you hear about Operation Teddy Drop?
