Default ANN: York AS Public "Star Party" Sat 25-Jun-2005

Dear All,

The York Astronomical Society, in conjunction with the North York Moors
National Park Authority, will be holding a public "Star Party" on
Saturday 25th June 2005. The event will be taking place in the car park
at the Sutton Bank Visitor Centre, on the A170. Viewing is due to start
around 8pm, admission is free and the views (if the weather holds out)
will be stunning. The Society will have telescopes on hand for use by
the public.

During the evening, we plan to start off with some safe solar observing,
followed by the spectacular planetary conjunction between Mercury, Venus
and Saturn. As it gets dark, Jupiter should offer us some good views,
then we'll be trying for some of the brighter objects in the night sky.

Alternatively, if you've recently acquired a telescope yourself, and
aren't sure what's what, then bring it along and our experts will try
and get you pointing in the right direction.

And if all that's not a good enough reason to come and see us at this
event, then think about how lovely the view will be - sunset across the
Vale of York from the top of Sutton Bank...
