I keep seeing claims about a certain kook who won KOTM in March 1998,
but he has always denied it. There is a mention on a website & an
announcement in the archives, but there are other things too. It
seems like the archives are incomplete, and perhaps we will never have
100% certainty. Looking at posts that were recently quoted & doing
some digging, I wonder if Tholen is correct - perhaps the honour did
really go to Strang.

Lest anyone get the wrong idea, I am not trying to cast doubt on this
award out of any notion that Tholen is not a kook. I would like to
see the questionable election overturned so that we could nominate him
again, but this time all would be done properly and documented
properly and there would not be any question that he really is KOTM.

That would be lending credibility to Tim 'Skidmark' Brown, who was KotM in
1997 (Dec), in his attempt to hijack the KotM process. In those days, we
(tinw) did not have as many awards and the process was not as carefully
documented as they are today. Besides, the Cabal (tinc) was celebrating
the demise of the Kook Kabal -- the numbers of passed out and sleeping
bodies at the newly opened COO headquarters (TINCOOH) were a shock to all
involved.

The election of Davie Tholen as Kook of the Month was legitimate and should
stand.
