Opportunity Rover emerges from Endurance Crater, sees structured object
The little Mars rovers, built to last 90 days, are now approaching their
FIRST ANNIVERSARY on Mars.
'Opportunity' has just emerged from inside Endurance Crater, where it spend
several months
mapping the rock layers in the crater wall.
It has a new target of HIGH interest.

It's the heat shield, by the way. and controllers want to wheel on over
there
to look into the deep hole it gouged on impact.
Also, assess how badly it was seared during atmospheric entry,
so they can design more efficient heat shields for future landers.
Next, it will wheel on to the south, down slope, as erosion has revealed
lower and lower rock
layers. It could do this for another year, or until it dies.
