Note to would be observers, there is still random but very intense
activity. Be patent and stick out because I think you're still in for
a treat!
When I began observing there was only mild activity but over the
course of almost two hours, I observed some major flare-ups. In fact,
the aurora was extended south to Orion! The whole darn sky was lit
up, so much that even 2 sec. exposures (@200 ISO) were over exposed.
Seriously, I could have read a newspaper by the light of the aurora!
The amount of power hitting the Earth is now approximately 57
Gigawatts now if we could only harness this energy! Kip index is
around 8 and that (plus all the other data) makes this aurora almost
as powerful as the last one (two nights ago).
