From Kansas City, Mo (39 deg N)
Blue-green curtains seen 35 deg above horizon at around 3:15UT.
Many blue-green curtains observed between 4 &5 UT, some with
red flares towards the upper portions of the spikes. A friend in the
NE Texas Panhandle also described most of what I saw. Curtains seemed
to move slowly right to left.
In Chicagoland, the curtains got all the way up to the zenith and a little
past towards the south. At the height of the storm (leastways before I went
to bed) around 10-11 pm CDT, the most intense activity was straight off to the
east and west. And like only one other aurora I recall seeing, this one
displayed a number of quick pulses and flashes like something out of the
closing weather realignment sequence in the movie Damnation Alley.
Now, time to get the film developed and hope the local skyglow didn't scrub
too much of the auroral detail...
