Nice report David. I'm on the verge of purchasing an Orion 100mm
SkyView Pro. Would the V-Block filter provide any worthwhile benefit?
Do you have any other suggestions on accessories needed to obtain the
best use of the scope?
The V-Block would help reduce the amount of violet fringing seen on bright
objects like the moon and planets, but even without the filter, I have used my
SkyView Pro 100 at powers as high as 200x. The fringing at that power is a
bit on the bad side, but even so, I can still see a lot of planetary detail.
However, the true strong point of this scope is its wide field low power use.
I would recommend a 2 inch star diagonal and a wide-field eyepiece. If you
want to stay with 1.25 inch eyepieces, you can't go wrong with the Tele Vue
24mm Panoptic. For another accessory, I put a Rigel Quickfinder on the front
of the dewcap, as it made the instrument a lot easier to point when seated
than using the finder. I replaced the finderscope with Orion's right-angle
correct image finder, and it works well with that scope. Clear skies to you.
