Although I suspect my news server of losing a few messages I doubt if it
is all that wide of the mark. Your server may have a years worth of
articles or be defective.
Why can't any house cleaning be done? Luckily I can choose how many
downloaded messages I get.
I don't see any obvious evidence of hip crime style flooding attacks
against s.a.a though a few other Usenet groups that I subscribe to have
previously taken hits running at 20000 posts/hour until the miscreants
were terminated. The junk posts usually persist for a few hours until
third party bulk cancels catch up with the garbage. If you are unlucky
you may see them.
If you are seeing huge numbers of persistent but obviously random dross
posts in s.a.a it is time to beat up on *your* ISP's newsmaster. It
looks OK from here.
