Default Newbie's Delight

Tonight, I had my first view of both Saturn and Jupiter through my newly
arrived 5" Orion. Absolutely gorgeous. I didn't quite know what to expect.
Both my girlfriend and I really enjoyed watching the two planets. I can't
wait to get out of the city and look for deep sky objects.

Depending on where you live, you may not need to go to a deep sky site
to see some nice objects. Try the Orion Nebula (M42). It is easily
visible from my very light polluted back yard in San Diego. Also try
M41, M44, and M67 (all star clusters). All are visible with
binoculars (M44 is even occasionally a naked eye object) from my back
yard.
