Thanks for the data. I was just poking around the sky with my 12.5" Meade
Starfinder Dob . . . snip I like red stars, especially carbon stars. . . .
I stumbled across a _very_ red star. Any guesses, that I might be
able to go back and look for it again?
Stephen -
If you have a deep magnitude reaching 12.5" DOB and are into carbon
stars, I suggest you download and install Alksnis's 2001 carbon star
catalogue into your planetarium software. Alksnis's catalogue looks
the most current and comprehensive carbon star catalogue. See:
http://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/q...tars+catalogue
You can get the catalogue via ftp at:
ftp://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/pub/cats/III/227
or interrogate it directly through Simbad at:
http://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/V...source=III/227
Looking at a 2 degree swath around the Rosette Nebula returned alot of
promising carbon star candidates, with catalogue cross referencing,
for your red star near the Rosette Nebula. Most were on the list that
I posted previously.
