Default OT - WARNING - Yahoo Groups

Found on another group (sci.archaeology). Thought I'd pass it along.

Richard, thank yo for bringing this to everyone's attention!

Although they do provide an "opt out" capability, this is a very
sneaky approach. The fact they are tracking is also not made very
clear or openly disclosed unless one reads the rpivacy policy on a
regular basis.

Folks in California, Canada and other jurisdictions that have somewhat
more stringent privacy legisaltion might want to consider letting
their privacy commisioner know about this, and send along a little
note to the FTC, etc.

Starry Skies,
Rich

Yahoo is now using something called, "Web Beacons" to track
Yahoo Group users around the Net and see what you're doing
and where you are going - similar to cookies.

Have a look at their updated privacy statement at:
http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/pixels/details.html

About half-way down the page, in the section "Outside the Yahoo!
Network", you'll see a little blue-colored, "click here" link that
will let you "opt out" of this new feature.

Once you have clicked that link, you are opted out. Notice the
"Success" message at the top the next page. Be careful here...,
because on that page, there's a "Cancel Opt-out" button, just
below it, that if clicked, will *undo* the opt-out. Feel free
to forward this to other groups.
