does this scope usually come without the
autostar controller? Is the tripod an option?

Hi:

The scope comes with the (494) Autostar. The tripod is optional. I've got my 60
on an adapter plate I bought from Scopetronix that allows me to mount it on our
heavy duty Manfrotto tripod. I'm not impressed by the tripod Meade sells for
the 60.
