How do those work for astronomy? I read a somewhat negative review of
the 15x50IS model -- which was a big surprise. Is 30 mm enough for real
"wow" on DSOs?

I have the 15x50 IS model and I am also surprised that you read a negative
review. I love mine! They are without question the best all purpose
astronomy binoculars (meaning weighing all factors like, portability,
weight, etc.) I have ever had, as well as the best all purpose overall
binoculars. In fact the only think I don't like about them is that there are
no covers for the objectives.
