You know, "up" is away from the Earth's surface towards space.
"Up" is not along the Earth's surface towards the north pole...

But 40 degrees is mathematically up from 35 degees.

By that logic going down in a cave or a mine is also going up because
200 meters below ground is mathematically up from 100 meters below
ground...
