when light pollution was insignificant, weren't completely devoid of
lights.
I'm in favor of decorative lighting in cities. Lighting up bridges and
buildings. Using lighting as art. And there are a great many examples
from around the world of this being done without much light being
wasted and contributing to light pollution.
The problem isn't light, it is bad lighting design.
