There's really no such thing as an expert in biblical interpretation
since the body of literature is substantially incoherent and
contradictory, and therefore subject to any interpretation people want
to provide.

Experts in biblical literature can offer ideas about how different
cultures have interpreted it, or who authored it, or when, or which
earlier myths formed the basis of different stories. They can put some
in historical or geographical context. But that's all.
