Default Mysterious Radio Burst Detected From Deep Space!

OSU's 'Big Ear' detected the 'Wow!' Signal in 1977 originating in Sagittarius near the border with Scorpio, pointing near the galactic centre. That radio observatory detected over 40,000 narrow band anomalies in that region over the ensuing years. This followed Balick & Brown's 1974 discovery of radio signals from the same region. In 2006 Rainer Schodel mapped the motion of stars in this region which indicated they were orbiting a supermassive object - a black hole at the Milky Way's centre.

On Halloween night 1938 The Mercury Theatre of the Air broadcast a radio adaptation of "War of the Worlds". Many thought the show was real. That's because the first two thirds of the broadcast were presented as a series of simulated news bulletins. This suggested to many listeners that an actual alien invasion by Martians was currently in progress. The programme ran without commercial breaks adding to the program's realism.

People are more sophisticated today. That means there would have to be reports in peer reviewed press that supported the notion of an alien invasion. Just like the radio reports in 1938 reported flashes on Mars and then explosions in New Jersey, in a consistent way to suggest an invasion before the 'main' broadcast, so too would we see reports in the literature over an extended period of time, presented in a fashion that was consistent with the idea that we are being visited.
