Newbie help viewing Mars
Hi all, total newbie here with a (potentially dumb) question.
I'm wondering what level of detail I should expect viewing Mars
through my (admitedly cheapo) 60mm f8 refractor?
Should I at least be able to see COLOR?
At the moment what I'm getting is a clear, sharp disc (10mm lens, 3x
barlow fitted. disc is about 4mm superficial) that is flat white. No
color, no detail. No fuzziness or bluring at least.
Could the lack of color be weather / seeing related? I'ts been hard
getting a clear night here of late and it's winter (Sydney,
Australia).
As I see it current worst case is that the scope just can't handle it
and should only be used for lunar viewing - in which case a
reccommended upgrade would be appreciated.
Can I claim at least some bragging rights for picking out Mercury
after only having a scope for 10 days?
