Dear friends,

The other night I pursued the globular cluster Palomar 9 in the
constellation of Sagittarius. I was quite apprehensive pursuing an
object which is between 20 and 28 degrees altitude during the three-hr
session centered around its transit of the southern meridian.

Palomar 9 has two bright and impressive carbon stars in the immediate
field of view and lies just to the south of one of them. I managed to
get quite detail including good resolution of the core.

The result was much better than I expected based on the very low
altitude of this object and I will be pursuing two other palomar
clusters (in Sgr and Cap) with a similar low altitude.
