I'll second that request for a simple device that would measure
naked-eye and through the scope sky brightness. Until then, a good
rule-of-thumb is useful.


How about the "Dark Sky Meter" Sky & Telescope, Feb 2001. Build one,
do some experimentation on converting it's reading to limiting mag and
you're off to the races.
